Irrigation

Quick coupler valve locations are vital during the summer months.  Having the right location can allow workers to quickly syringe the entire green without having to connect into two separate valves.   This allows golfers less down time waiting for syringing to take place.  In this case, the current quick coupler valve was not able to water the entire green, and it was also in a high traffic area.

1) We chose this location off the backside of the green to lessen traffic around the valve and because it could easily reach the entire green when watering.

2) Let the fun begin!  We dug down and found the pipe making sure not to damage the pipe or any wires.  We made sure there was enough space to install the 2"tee and 2" gasketed knock-on.

3) We cut the pipe where we wanted the 2" tee to go and left enough room to slide the 2" gasketed knock-on on.
Make sure when cutting not to hit any wires

4) Since we did not have a 2"slipx2"slipx1" threaded female, we used a 1" female reducer bushing.  This was glued into the 2"x2"x2" slip tee.  Before gluing the tee onto the existing pipe we also threaded the swing joint elbow into the reducer bushing.  Once aligned properly we glued the tee on and held until it was set.

5)  The existing pipe was then filed down allowing the 2" knock-on to glide over the pipe.  A pipe lubricant was applied to the knock-on and the existing pipe to make this process easier.

6) A new piece of pipe was measured just slightly shorter than the distance between the 2"tee and the existing pipe.  This was done to allow the new pipe just enough space to be glued into the 2"tee.  The end of the new pipe that the knock-on will go onto to was then filed down.

As you can see the new pipe on the right is filed down
and ready to recieve the knock on.

7) Once the glue is set, the knock-on is hammered directly between the new pipe and the existing pipe.  The swing joint and quick coupler valve are then threaded together and placed at an appropriate height.
8) The cone and lid are then placed level, while filling the soil back into the hole.  Once all the soil is tamped into the hole the sod is placed back over and the project is complete!
Project finished!
